GEOG 195WC - The Wilderness Concept

Outcome 1:
The student will define “wilderness.”

Outcome 2:
The student will understand past and present perceptions of wilderness.

Outcome 3:
The student will describe the evolution of the wilderness concept.

Outcome 4:
The student will understand the Wilderness Act of 1964 and the National Wilderness Preservation System.

Outcome 5:
The student will appreciate the Three Sisters Wilderness as a unit of the National Wilderness Preservation System and as a natural and cultural entity.

Outcome 6:
The student will be able to explain the nature of wilderness as a resource.

Outcome 7:
The student will be able to explain the nature of wilderness management.

Outcome 8:
The student will understand contemporary wilderness management issues.

Outcome 9:
The student will understand the roles of the professional wilderness manager and his or her field representatives (wilderness rangers and wilderness information specialists).

Outcome 10:
The student will understand the perception of the future of wilderness and wilderness management.
